So I'm sitting at the computer the other day watching a video from Madam Puseletso Selemane on YouTube (you MUST look this girl up!!!) and meditating on something she said that hit me hard - clearly a "when God speaks" moment, and I hear in my head "Be broken in rest".
As I sat there more the Spirit began to open this up...
A person at rest can experience such a state of undisturbedness from outside factors, that he/she still remains at peace.
In other words, you can be broken in rest. I mean, what's the alternative? Be broken and stressed about it, too? Basically. That's what I've been doing. And it's for the birds! I started to think of how we can look at the order and wisdom of God's creation to see this principle at work.
WE CAN LEARN FROM CREATION
Animals do it. Trees do it. Seasons do it. Everything in creation knows how to rest. Even the human body!
When you're sick - aside from a bunch of useless medication that only exacerbates the problem, of course- what is the main thing doctors tell you to do?
"Get some rest." Why is this?
It's because even doctors know and cannot deny that the body has within it, an encoding (from God, btw) to correct and heal itself simply from the act of resting.
A broken limb at rest, will heal itself.
A feverish body at rest, will heal itself.
A tired voice at rest will heal itself.
Even inflamed, acne-prone skin at rest will heal itself.
In short, you can be broken in rest.
Of course, when doctors say it they mean sleep, specifically. But in our case,
REST is maintaining a peaceful, joyful, hopeful posture in your mind, emotions, choices, and heart.
It's a thought process/declaration like this:
'I will believe what God is saying about me and my situtation(s). All things are working for my good. I choose to trust that God is with me, is for me, and will help me through every difficulty. I choose to act like God sees me, knows me, loves me, and has mercy on me. I choose to believe that Jesus' blood is still speaking for me, interceding on my behalf. Therefore, I choose to be joyful, and at peace. I choose to remind myself of the times I was worried and He came through for me. I choose to stay close to Him in the interim and not passively distant because things aren't how I think they should be.'
Does that make sense? You can be broken (while still) in rest.
I know, I know. This goes against what we inherently know about God and the essence of our relationship with Him. But, this statement does not constitute remaining broken. Quite the contrary. Remember, resting is the key to the situation changing in the first place. A prerequisite even, if we consider the examples above.
Here's my takeaway from this encounter: whatever place you are in your life, WHATEVER PLACE... submit it in trust to God and DECIDE to stay, WORK to stay at rest. In this place you can be confident that whatever it is, no matter how broken - even if you broke it- if you rest in His ability to care for you, tend to you, correct you, realign you, lead you, comfort you, soothe you, woo you, reassure you, and rebuild you, it will be, YOU will be restored to perfect health.
Granted, I have had to remind myself of this and renew my mind to this several times already and this just happened a few days ago lol. Thou shouldest be encouraged, fam.
But seriously, if this is a hard season for you, take the word of the Gentle One to heart, and, "be broken in rest".
Hebrews 4:10-11 TPT
As we enter into God's faith-rest life we cease from our own works, just as God celebrates his finished works and rests in them. So then we must be eager to experience this faith-rest life, so that no one falls short by following the same pattern of doubt and unbelief.
